Pasco Pirate Pretenders? I THINK NOT!
All year long myself and many others included, have doubted the Pirates. We have said their schedule is week, their athletes are no more special than what you see in Pinellas or Hillsborough and that they didn’t have enough depth or linemen to make a serious run in the playoffs where they will be exposed. Well guess what WE WERE ALL WRONG, except for a couple local writers from a local newspaper outlet.
Now I am asking myself this, was Jefferson overrated or is Pasco just that good? That question is hard to decipher but I don’t want to dummy up then win by Pasco by trying to compare them to every team in Hillsborough or Pinellas (they would beat most FACT) let’s just talk the facts here.
Pasco IS GOOD and I dare to say this is a SPECIAL Pasco team. They are 13-0 and while their 1st 10 games were WEAK opponents they have now proven that has no effect on them they are just a good team with playoff wins over Sante Fe, North Marion and now the crushing blow, a 31-7 win over favorite Jesuit, they have more than proven their worth. Including playoffs they have scored 624 points and given up only 100 points. Armwood has scored 501 and given up 101 just for comparisons sake.
Their Core group of Jacob Guy, Janorian Grant, Trey Dudley Giles, and David Emmanuel are as good of a group as you will find anywhere and they are all big time players who make big time plays in big time games. Guy had a TD throw, a TD run and a 2 point conversion pass (one handed toe tapping corner catch at that). Grant was the focus of the Jesuit defense but he ended up getting his, scoring a 6 yard TD run as well as a back breaking 102 yard interception return for a touchdown. Giles was a catalyst in this game, only seeing the end zone once on a 47 yard pass, but he also was responsible for picking off Tommy Eveld and making other big catches in key situations. Emmanuel didn’t score but had several big runs that helped Pasco move the chains. In my opinion this core group will lead them to Orlando
Hillsborough DOES NOT OWN PASCO County… There has been a debate going on all year about Hillsborough owning Pinellas county and for the most part that can be said to be true. But, the results don’t speak to that. The spread is something like 21-17. Somehow Pasco County was brought into the conversation but how can that be said when the only Pasco team that faced Hillsborough teams were Wiregrass ranch (which just so happens to be one of their worst teams). When one of Hillsborough’s best teams went up against THE best team in Pasco, the difference was glaring. Pasco OWNED Jesuit tonight and there is just no other way you can slice it.
For Jesuit it was a good season and they should look to be very good next year as well, but right here, right now, the night belonged to the Pasco Pirates. Janorian Grant says he will see you again next year Jesuit.
