PASCO COUNTY RECRUITING RECRUITING FEATURES THE BOX

Pasco: Ivie blows up, Pirates add gas

Somehow the Pasco Pirates have to followup a memorable 2011 season. A season where Head Football Coach Tom McHugh led his youthful Pirates to a 13-1 season, losing in the semi finals of the state playoffs.

Senior QB, Jacob Guy left his mark on the program. Putting up big numbers and producing arguably one of the greatest senior seasons in Pasco County history. Trey Dudley-Giles was a running Hilite film. The combination of Guy to Dudley-Giles was a fixture on Friday nights in Dade City.

Those two and other seniors will move on and hand down the responsibilities of leadership, hardwork and accountability to the next group. One of the successors is none other than 2013 DT Joey Ivie.

Ivie is the #1 ranked DT and #17 ranked payer overall in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco County. The 6-4/268lbs monster of a player is agile, quick and strong. His recruitment has spiraled out of control over the last month picking up verbal overs from programs such as Tennessee, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Florida, Florida St. and Mississippi State. He currently holds 18 total verbal offers with plenty more insight.

Joey Ivie HILITES – We sat down with Ivie and talked some recruiting:

How has the success of the Pasco Pirates helped with your recruiting exposure?
Ivie: Yes, because we are still some what underrated because Pasco is in a small town. But, advancing far in the playoffs last year helped and opened some eyes.

Has attending camps and showcases elevated your exposure?
Ivie: I have only attended one showcase, But riding on the Unsigned Preps bus tour as a sophomore, attending different camps, help a lot.

What is the most confusing part of the recruiting process?
Ivie: Currently I have 18 offers. The most confusing part will be choosing the right fit.

What schools have expressed the most NEED for you?
Ivie: Many of the small schools along with Miami, USF and Texas Tech.

Do you think you will be an early commit or string your decision out to signing day?
Ivie: I will probably commit before signing day.

Will the NCAA football conference realignments effect your commitment decision?
Ivie: It could impact my decision in a good way.

What have you not accomplished that you are chasing?
Ivie: I don’t know what the sack record is, but I would like the sack record for Pasco High and Pasco County.
