Pasco traveled to Zephyrhills last night for their annual date with county rival. The stadium filled fast as the sunlight quickly dissipated. Pasco would win this year’s contest but not without a fight from the home Bulldogs.
The Pirates used heavy formations and pounded the bulldog defense with inside runs over and over. The tactic quickly killed the clock and scored enough points for Pasco to win by the score of 24 to 16. The Bulldogs punched back with their misdirection offense but squandered a few opportunities to take the lead in the game. Both teams were very competitive and showed a will to win. But when the clock expired, Pasco made the most plays and score the most points.
Both teams had a number of athletes who performed extremely well in this contest. Here is your prospect breakdown
PASCO
Nate Craig, WR
The Pirate offensive game plan was not designed for Nate Craig to be extremely active this game. However, when he was it was evident why he is such a highly recruited prospect. In the second quarter Craig caught a slant pass, which was defended extremely well by the corner and scampered 52 yards for the touchdown. On this single play he showed his speed, strength and athletic ability.
Malik Johns, ATH
Once again he was the player to stop for the Pirates. Before he scored the deciding touchdown late in the fourth quarter, he chopped away at the bulldog defense with several effective inside and outside runs. His versatility and elusiveness makes him such a dangerous player.
Andrew Ivie DT
The defensive line played well for Pasco as a whole. In the middle of that line was Ivie who used his big body to make it difficult for Zephyrhills to run inside. At times he shot gaps quickly and showed a good take off to disrupt plays in the backfield.
Jacob Morphew, DT
Off the edge, Jacob made life difficult for the Bulldog QBs in passing situations. Too fast and too strong. Used his advantage to get to the passer and limit the opportunities for Zephyrhills to make big plays through the air.
ZEPHYRHILLS
Devin Brockington, ATH
The number of splash plays for Zephyrhills were few. However, often they put together several drives that crewed up yards against the Pasco defense. Brockington was a big reason why the Dogs were successful in moving the ball down the field. His speed and shiftiness allowed the Dogs to beat Pasco to the perimeter. He also had a few good punt returns and played every snap on defense.
Jaylen Pickett, RB
Brockington put the pressure on Pasco on the outside, Pickett did work on the inside. Jaylen moved the chains and kept the Pirate defense honest with his hard nose style and effective carries. Jaylen has emerged into one of the better players in the county and a important piece to the Bulldog offense. Great size, ability and skill set…good player.
