TAMPA — Plant (11-0) rallied in the final minute to beat Lakeland (8-3), 25-21, when junior Clay Hancher blocked a punt and junior Tobin Snead run it back to the 2 yard line setting up senior Dane Frantzen‘s game winning touchdown on a quarterback sneak.
The game was scoreless till the 3:24 mark of the third quarter when Plant senior Nick Rice kicked a 24-yard field goal and then the fireworks started. On the next page from scrimmage, Lakeland’s senior Holden Hotchkiss hit senior Willie Baker with an 80-yard touchdown strike and on the following kickoff freshman Fenley Graham forced a fumble and senior G’kari West picked it up at the 23 yard line and run it to give Lakeland a 14-3 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Panther’s senior Whop Philyor scored on a 2-yard touchdown run and a 38-yard touchdown pass from Frantzen to put Plant back in the lead, 18-14. Dreadnaught’s senior A.J. Davis then run back the kickoff 99 yards to put Lakeland back on top 21-18. Lakeland’s defense held Plant on the next possession but the Dreadnaughts offense failed to gain a first down opening the door for the last minute blocked punt.
Frantzen finished with 185 total yards, a touchdown pass and touchdown run and Philyor added 128 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns.
Davis gained 190 all-purpose yards and a touchdown and Baker had 4 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.
