Pace Yourself With the 17s

The 2017 class is shaping up just as expected. Similar to previous classes, many kids will blossom this season with more experience, maturity and opportunity. Currently, we have evaluated 31 2017 prospects and graded them with a Division 1 rating. That number will grow as the offseason moves forward and the fall season shows their true colors. Below are a few 2017 kids who have really sparked our interest.

Darius Corbett, Tampa Catholic WR
Somehow this young man is related to former Tampa Catholic two-sport athlete and current Delaware basketball player Chivarsky Corbett. Both really good athletes and Darius is trying to make a name for himself jammed between a talented offensive roster of Tampa Catholic.

DOES WELL: Corbett Shows soft hands. Love his concentration in traffic and the way he snatches the pigskin out the air. Not often did I observe body catches. Catches the rock with his hands. Runs sharp and crisp routes with body control and able to cut on a dime.

IMPROVE: Upper body strength. Corbett is listed at 6-1/170 pounds. He will need to increase his upper body strength to defend against aggressive press man defensive backs.

Tre McKitty, Tampa Catholic TE
If all goes well at Tampa Catholic this year, Tre should see his fair share of receptions and become a valuable passing option for Kevin Knox who is executed to play football again this season but rumored to concentrate on basketball. 6-4/220, McKitty is the prototype TE with plenty of room to grow.

DOES WELL: I happen to think Tre could be a possession receiver and open up the outside of the defense. Last season at Wesley Chapel, McKitty was a threat after catching the ball. Not much elusiveness, but strong runner ready to lower the shoulder.

IMPROVE: Acceleration is key. If Tre can improve his initial burst and then his downfield speed, the college coaches will start to salivate. A big strong receiver who can go deep and stress the secondary…PRICELESS!

Rashaad Stewart, Clearwater Central Catholic DB
CCC has had their fair share of talented defensive backs over the years. This dude can be another. Blessed with length and good reaction, Stewart has a chance to progress to a pretty attractive college prospect.

DOES WELL: We like him in zone coverage. As a young player, he feels the play out well and shows discipline defending his zone. He has great range at 6-0/170 and covers ground.

IMPROVE: The best defensive backs has a great burst. They react and change directions in a hurry. Stewart needs to improve his burst out of breaks.
