Osceola junior quarterback Andrew Matyk turned in a solid performance at the Under Armour Combine on Saturday. While results are not yet available for many of his individual drills Matyk did turn in 21 bench press reps at 185 lbs, a total that was tops of any quarterback I saw.

Following individual drills participants split into groups of their positions. Matyk held his own as he was in the mix with some of the top quarterbacks in the country, including the number-one ranked quarterback by numerous rating sites.

Once the QBs got warmed up they began dropping back and throwing passes to receivers that were running actual routes. Matyk, who has visited a number of colleges, looked seasoned as he dropped back to pass. His feet were quick and crisp. During his drop-back he kept his shoulders high and his head downfield. Matyk also has a very quick release and does a nice job stepping into his throw, which is a major reason he throws such a nice deep ball.

The quarterbacks also separated to run naked bootlegs and practiced throwing the ball on the run. Matyk’s feet again looked strong as he was able to make his rotation quickly and get his eyes back downfield. He looked very comfortable rolling to his left and throwing on the run. Being very fundamental Matyk always seemed to try to get his shoulders in line with his target get his frame completely behind his arm.

During 7-on-7 drills Matyk was able to get through his progressions very quickly. He knew where he wanted to go with the ball during his pre-snap read and then was able to get through each progression as he made his drop-backs. His posture as he dropped back again looked as clean as any quarterback at the combine.

Although he has yet to receive an official offer, Andrew Matyk has caught the attention of many schools.  Matyk will participate in the BCP Ignite Combine on February 11th and says that he would like to make a few more visits this offseason as well.
