Opinion Changed on Ray-Ray McCloud III

Ray Ray McCloud vs Robinson

I will cut right to the chase. As a sophomore, I thought Ray Ray McCloud was good. Thought he had such a high ceiling as an athlete, that he could be special. Watching him run the ball a year ago, he ran strong, ran tough, and was very durable. His numbers support my observations: 162 carries, 1319 yards 8.14 yards per rush and 12 rushing TDs.

After watching him rip Ignite in February and tear up the all-star 7 on 7 circuits, my opinion started to change. He showed that he could do so much; catch passes, intercept passes, be a lock down CB. The kid was more than just a running back. He showed that he was a true athlete and football player.

So when talking to college coaches, and when asked my opinion of him, the standard answer was always, “Coach, it doesn’t matter where you play him. He can do it all. I think he can really be a lock down CB because of his length and anticipation. But, he can do just about anything.” Note: McCloud enter the 2013 season as our #1 ATH

Today, after watching him once in person and a few times on film. I started to feel like the kid was a freaking monster of a RB. After watching the film below, I now think he is a TRUE BIG TIME running back. Could still be successful at any other skilled position. But if he wants to run the rock in any college conference, he could do so.

He has really developed as expected. He has improved his speed, strength, and quickness and is even more skilled. The film below is so fun to watch. Even better because his development came in such a short period of time. This year, McCloud has totaled 266 carries, 2115 rushing yards, averaging 7.95 yards per carry and 23 rushing TDs. That’s 104 more attempts, 796 more yards and twice as many rushing TDs as last season. Oh yea, he has one more “promised” game and one more full senior season.

As you watch this film for entertainment, I want you to look for ONE THING. HIS BEST skill is making defenders miss in small spaces. It’s easy for ball carries to shake a safety or LB in the open field. But true skills to make a DLman or LB miss between the tackles.
