AROUND THE STATE

Oh, man he’s good: Weeki Wachee RB, Shawn O’Gorman

He is largely considered to be a major part of the heart-and-soul of Hornet-pride for Weeki Wachee and has already shown us what he’s made of by winning the Running Back MVP award at Ignite in January following a phenomenal set of performances at E7 last year as well. The looks are finally starting to come his way after putting up 1,718 all-purpose yardage and eight touchdowns on offense in spite of a 1-9 season.

O’Gorman checks-in at 5-foot-9, 180-pounds and provides fantastic dual-threat options with his hands and his feet out of the backfield. His change of direction and his fearless running style make him an issue between the tackles, or his instincts in the open field and his route-running can create mismatches in the slot. We’ve talked quite a bit about this young man, but we wanted to give you an update on how this rising senior and leader of the squad is progressing in the offseason. He will be at Stetson’s camp later this summer and is drawing some heavy interest from Lafayette as well. We knew quite well about Shawn’s ability on the field, but those wondering whether or not there’s any issues with the most important part (i.e, grades and offseason progression) then fear not.

Here is O’Gorman with the quick update on how his offseason has gone so far:

“Right now things are going good on the classroom side. I’m carrying 3.85 GPA and took the ACT for a second time just recently. This semester I’m working on all-A’s which should actually put me over a 4.0 GPA at the end. Football-wise, even though we are just a five year program, out of the four years I’ve been a part of this program, this is definitely the best Spring I’ve ever experienced going off how fluid everything is. I know it’s just a short time during the month, but for a couple of weeks of being in pads and all things considered the team is just picking-it-up-and-putting-it-down right now. We are definitely in the best place we’ve been in my time here at Weeki Wachee.”
