No. 2 Armwood goes the distance to down No. 9 Gorman

LAS VEGAS – Armwood (Seffner, Fla.) High School’s exciting, well-played, lived-up-to-all billing 20-17 football win over host Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) Friday night was all about time and distance.

Before a jammed-packed Gorman crowd of 5,000 fans and a national-television audience, the second-ranked Hawks overcome their school’s first out-of-state trip – a 2,500-mile jaunt that was delayed by four hours Thursday, throwing off the team’s schedule and sleep patterns – and a fierce fourth-quarter Gorman rally.

“We weren’t going to make excuses win or lose,” Armwood coach Sean Callahan said. “It was a great experience. Gorman was first-rate hosts. But I tell you what, it feels a lot better with a win.”

The Hawks could chalk most of that up due to a bend-but-not-break defense that limited Gorman to 279 yards and no touchdowns for the three quarters. SEE IN FULL
