New Year, Same Search: Alvarez out as OC at Jesuit. (UPDATED)

For the second consecutive season there’s a “Hiring, Apply Within” sign hanging out front of a particular school facing N. Himes Avenue. The Jesuit Tigers and Head Coach James Harrell are in the market for a new offensive coordinator. BCP has learned that Ty Alvarez, who followed long-time Armwood OC Chris Taylor oversaw the production of nearly 4,500 yards of Total Offense while at the school en route to an 11-2 season for the Tigers, has left the program following the departure of their DB’s Coach last month.

The Tigers threw for over 2,415 yards with Alvarez overseeing the development of Penn QB Patton Chillura as QB’s Coach in 2010 under Taylor, then the maturation of Tommy Eveld who will be taking a preferred walk-on status at USF this Fall. Under Alvarez’ direction the 6-5, 185lb Pro-Style QB threw for over 2,300 yards and a 2:1 ratio of TD’s to Int’s with 20 and 10.

Jesuit also rushed for just shy of 2,000 (1,989) on the season under Alvarez. They were able to achieve four rushers with 200+ yards, in addition to 5 different WR’s with 200+ yards on the season. They also averaged 34 points a game.

“Jesuit is where I’ve spent the last 30 years from being a student to a member of the coaching staff. It carries a special place in my heart, but I had come to the decision that it was time to go in a different direction.” said Alvarez.

Alvarez (Class of ’81) is also a Member of The Jesuit High School Hall of Fame.
