“More leadership and excitement can take us a long way.” – Sayff Saed, Freedom

Sayff Saed, Freedom 2015 WR

Sayff Saed, Freedom 2015 WR has seen a lot in his days as a Freedom Patriot. He and his teammates have had some good times and bad. However, the future is fruitful for the Red, White and Blue. Saed is encouraged by the progress his team is making and expects 2014 to be a break through season for Freedom. Saed took the time out and allowed us to find out what inspires him, leads him and his expectations for the spring and fall.

BCP: If you could be doing anything instead of being in class, what would you do and why?

SS: If I could be anywhere other than the class room, I would be working out or hanging out with my teammates because there’s nothing better than to be around people you trust and are aiming for the same goals as you are. You build a great relationship and start communicating more which helps on Friday nights when your strapped up.

BCP: What are your top three values in a teammate and why?

SS: My top 3 values in a teammate have to be a good character, humbled and a strong believer because that’s a great way you lead by example and it tends to rub off on your teammates. Believers are winners and I was always told that.

BCP: Explain the best play you saw in person last season?

SS: The best play I saw last season by far has to be when one of my teammates Anthony Hendry jumped over both lines to block a field goal. He timed that perfectly! First time I saw a human fly [laughter]. That was a true jaw dropping moment.

BCP: What colleges are showing strong interest?

SS: My recruiting hasn’t really picked up yet, hoping to turn heads in the spring and turn letters into offers.

BCP: Tell me about a role model and why you look up to that person?

SS: My biggest role model has to be my father. He always taught me to turn nothing into something. I’m inspired how he’s always on his grind. He’s a great example of a selfless person, which ties into playing football. You can’t be selfish in a team sport! He finds the positive in everything, once I learned that, the belief in everything followed.

BCP: What changes have you seen in your team since your freshman season?

SS: I’ve seen a lot of changes in the team since I was a freshman. The thing that sticks out the most is that we play more together. Now, I know if I’m having troubles, I can depend on my teammates. The vibe of the team has really come a long ways. There’s more people that believe in winning instead of just hoping. I hear all the time that we will never have a winning record (Last winning season: 2009 7-3 HC James Harrell District Runner-Up), but we’re going to play 2014 with a chip on our shoulder and prove people wrong.

BCP: What is your definition of leadership?

SS: Leadership is someone who’s not just there for his or her self. But a person who’s looking out for others. Leaders have a passion to play and would dedicate there time. They have high ambitions and wouldn’t let you down. I’m more of a ‘lead by action’ kind of guy. It grabs more people’s attention and makes them want to do right.

BCP: Who is a great leader that has inspired you?

SS: A great leader that has inspired me is Robert Griffin (Washington Redskins QB). He brings excitement and leadership. He’s very humbled and thankful. From the things I see on TV, he can turn a loss into a victory just by his leadership and I think that’s what inspires me the most about RG3. More leadership and excitement can take us a long way.
