He’s still got two more seasons left–and with plenty of more room to develop his game–but with one of Pasco County’s top quarterbacks returning with him on the offense next season, the Mitchell Mustangs look to be lighting up scoreboards at a stadium near you in 2016 and beyond. Six-foot, 170-pound running back Mychael Hamilton wrapped up his first season on varsity for Mitchell in 2015–and boy, was it a good one.
The Mustangs’ main guy in the backfield carried the ball 182 times for 1,244 yards averaging 124 yards per game. Hamilton also rushed for 20 touchdowns and was an integral part in helping his squad win the District 6A-6 title–the fist in program history–and a trip to the postseason. According to Maxpreps, that rushing total puts Hamilton seventh in the state this season amongst sophomores.
Hamilton’s style is shifty–possessing quick feet and cuts naturally in order to find daylight. He shows good patience and vision when waiting on his blockers to get the hole opened and runs with good balance keeping his legs moving after contact. All vital skills needed for a good foundation at the position.
Hamilton even shows a willingness to block for others in the backfield when asked to as well as taking on rushing defenders in pass protection. Needless to say, he is potentially one of Pasco County’s brightest stars on the horizon, and at the very least is going to put smiles on the faces of the Mustang faithful for years to come.
