When starting your own business rarely does anything come easy. You learn from trial and error and reach out for as much assistance as you can get. Middleton head football coach, Alonzo Ashwood is about to step knee deep in the Lion’s Pit (2011 football season) and has changed, shifted and adjusted plenty within his short term thus far at MHS. As pieces of the puzzle start to form the big picture, Ashwood accepts a massive gift in the form of Don Mesick.

Don Mesick comes to the Coach Ashwood and his staff with plenty of coaching experience and resources. Mesick is a Dunedin High School Alumni and University of Florida Alumni and has coached football since graduating from college in 1990. “Mesick is going to help us. He knows his stuff and I am excited to have him on staff” Alonzo Ashwood. Mesick coached at the youth level for many years and served as the head coach of Dunedin High School’s JV Team. Mesick then served as the interim offensive coordinator for DHS for ½ of a season when the offensive coordinator had to resign to due health reasons. Mesick was Offensive Coordinator for Palm Harbor University High School for the past two years, and then moved on to Spoto where he also served as the OC during the spring.

Mesick will be the Co-Offensive Coordinator at Middleton under Alonzo Ashwood and is excited to get started. “I have been on a whirlwind since the end of last season trying to find a good fit to continue my coaching career. After meeting Coach Ashwood and his staff I knew immediately that I would fit in. Coach Ashwood is an extremely organized coach with a tremendous work ethic; however his dedication to the advancement of his players is what really sold me on him and on Middleton. I am very grateful for the opportunity and have already begun working towards helping him build a winner. There are a lot of positive qualities about Middleton High School and I am confident with consistent hard work we can become a contender”. ~Don Mesick
