MIAMI CLIMBS INTO TOP 10 OF BOTH POLLS

Hurricanes attain highest rankings since October 2013

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Following a thrilling 25-24 win over Georgia Tech Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami continued its ascent into the top 10 of both major college football polls Sunday.

The Hurricanes (5-0, 3-0 ACC) moved up three spots from No. 11 to No. 8 in the Associated Press rankings and three spots from No. 10 to No. 7 in the Amway Coaches Poll.

The rankings are the highest for Miami since Week 9 of the 2013 season, when the Hurricanes were ranked No. 7 by the AP and No. 6 in the Coaches Poll.

The Hurricanes entered the season ranked in both preseason polls for the first time since 2010.

In their two seasons under the direction of head coach Mark Richt, the Hurricanes have been ranked in the top 10 of both polls in both seasons; Miami was last ranked in the top 10 of both polls in Week 6 of 2016 (No. 10 / No. 10).

Miami continues its home slate with an ACC matchup against visiting Syracuse at Hard Rock Stadium on Oct. 21. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN.

TWO HURRICANES RECOGNIZED BY ACC WITH WEEKLY AWARDS
University of Miami wide receiver Darrell Langham and kicker Michael Badgley were among those recognized with weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference, as announced Monday.

Langham was recognized with ACC Co-Receiver of the Week honors, while Badgley was named ACC Specialist of the Week. The two join Braxton Berrios (ACC Receiver of the Week, Oct. 9) as Miami honorees through the first seven weeks of the season.

A week after catching the game-winning touchdown against Florida State with fewer than 10 seconds left in the game, Langham caught the Hurricanes’ most important pass once again Saturday in a 25-24 win over Georgia Tech. Langham hauled in a 28-yard reception on fourth-and-10 on Miami’s final drive to help set up the game-winning 24-yard field goal.

Langham had his best game at Miami with five catches for 100 yards against the Yellow Jackets, including a long reception of 32. He had caught four passes in his career entering Saturday’s game.
Badgley was crucial to pushing Miami past Georgia Tech at Hard Rock Stadium. Badgley finished a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts, including his game-winning 24-yarder with four seconds remaining on the game clock to cap a 15-play, 85-yard drive.

Badgley came just one field goal shy of his career mark (five) and ranks second in all-time field goals made at Miami with 69. He is just four behind Miami’s all-time leader, Carlos Huerta.
