Armwood_IMG_9700Unless you have been out the country somewhere with no way to keep up with high school football, you should know that Armwood is going for their 3rd state title on Saturday versus a team they are very familiar with.

Miami Central ran Armwood off the field last season beating the Hawks 52-7 in the 6A state title game. Armwood head football coach, Sean Callahan did not hold his tongue at all during the head coaches, championship media conference call. Callahan said this is a game for Armwood to redeem themselves versus one of the best teams in the state and nation.

Class 6A State Title Game:
Armwood (14-0) vs Miami Central (13-1), Saturday, 12/13, 1:07pm
This will be the 3rd time in 4 years these teams have met in the state title game (2013 Central won 52-7, 2011 Armwood won 40-31 later vacated).

Armwood has made a state title game 4 out of last 5 years (also lost to Lincoln 17-14 in 2010); Armwood has 2 state titles (2003, 2004). Miami Central has made a state title game 5 straight years (also beat Dr. Philips 42-27 in 2010 and beat Gainesville 37-14 in 2012); Miami Central has 3 state titles (2010, 2012, 2013).

Lake Gibson 2016 OT Michael Wiggs received his first verbal offer late last week. South Alabama is the first program to jump at Wiggs. He can play any position on the offensive line, likely to play offensive guard at the next level because he stands around 6-3 instead of 6-5. Wiggs is a teammate of two of our top 2016 prospects, OL Baveon Johnson and DT Keyshon Camp.

Two Plant City athletes were offered scholarship opportunities. Bethel offered ATH Austin Carswell and Mexico Military Institute offered S Javaris Whitsett. Carswell transferred from Strawberry Crest and earned the starting quarterback job. He has also played receiver and defensive back.

Lennard 2015 ATH Diontae Johnson received a verbal offer from Ball State Monday morning. Johnson’s recruitment is now starting to pick up after an ALL BCP type season; dominant as a receiver, productive as a returner and lockdown as a corner. He now holds offers from Alcorn State, Ball State and Eastern Illinois. Toledo is expected to offer soon.

By The Numbers, 6 area running backs rushed for over 1300 yards this season (Numbers acquired from Maxpreps). 5 of the 6 players listed below rushed for playoff teams this season. Patrick Brooks had the best Attempts/TD ratio. According to the math, Brooks scored a rushing TD once in ever 11 carries. It took Blake’s Corey Bennet 26 carries to score.
