MADISON COUNTY SECOND HALF MUSCLE WINS 1A TITLE

It was the best of halves, it was the worst of halves, it was the perfect game-plan, it wasn’t the perfect ending, but if you’re a Blountstown Tiger, the best away to describe the action between Blountstown and Madison County in Orlando during the Class 1A State Championship on Thursday afternoon can be best described as a tale of two halves. And in the end, it was the Cowboys of Madison County pulling away late to secure their first title in a decade 35-20 over Blountstown.

Blountstown absolutely had to have the perfect game in order to pull off what might have been the state’s biggest upset in all classes had they done it in the state’s biggest game for their respective classification. For the first 24 minutes, they had punched the biggest bully on the block squarely in the mouth, and MadCo was rattled. The Tigers took a 17-14 lead just before the half and held distinct advantages in most major statistical categories, but in the end it was the Cowboys who dusted off their boots and finished the fight, outscoring Blountstown 21-3 in the final two quarters of play.

The title is Madison County’s first title since 2007, when they defeated Tampa Catholic, 28-7. Blountstown was looking for their first title since 1977. SEE PHOTOS HERE
