HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY THE BOX

Longhorns Hope to Poke Hole in District

Ruskin, FL – #1, Lennard is far as heck. But once you see the school, it is worth it. The Longhorns sit on a beautiful campus that is expected to hold between 1600-1700 students this year. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect when I went to observe Lennard. I was really excited to see LB, David Sanders, who was one of the county’s leading tacklers last season. Outside of that, I wanted to see if there were any other impressive athletes. The numbers were low, about 20-30 kids. But coach gave me a heads up that kids would be missing. I was really impressed with head coach, George Edington.  It something to be said about a coach who doesn’t pull punches with his kids.  He was very realistic and optimistic about his players and upcoming season.  I thought he did a great job teaching and was organized at an informal workout session.

If you didn’t know what a linebacker was or what one looked like, rising senior, David Sanders may be the poster boy.  He goes about 6-1/215-220is with a head and neck of full size bull mastiff.  If you were a running back and the QB called a play where you were suppose to get the ball in either A gap, and you looked across the line and he was there…you might wanna see if the QB has an audible in mind.  Watching him without pads, I think he has really good hips and feet for a LB.  I have seen his hilites from 2010 and seeing him in person confirms what I already picked up on.  He is very instinctive.  Yea, they were not doing too much, but he was always in the right place at the right time.  I am very high on this young man.

Lennard picked up a WR/DB transfer from Lakewood Ranch, Darien Davis.  Big surprise and big addition for the Longhorns.  Davis measures around 6-3/190-200ish and is very athletic.  He is a rangy kid that will provide Lennard with big play ability.
