When talking about the PLAYER OF THE YEAR, we are not pointing out the best player on your team.  We are talking about the Peyton Manning of BCP coverage area (Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas County). We are talking about the LeBron James of 72 different schools. The freaking best player with the most production out of the schools we cover.

Below is how we think when picking nominees for Player of the Year. SEE PAST WINNERS HERE

1 THE SUCCESS OF THE TEAM – The POY had to have had an impact on the success of the team. If the team doesn’t have success, the POY can’t come from that team.  The moment is never too big for the POY.  The POY gets his team out of bad situations and makes big time plays in big time moments.

2 RUNNING BACKS – Easiest route, but must do what others are not. 1000 yards rushing is not enough. Currently, 10 players in the BCP coverage area have 1000 yards rushing or more. What else did the RB do if he has under 1500 yards? How many receiving yards does he have? Did he play both sides of the ball? 1000 yards rushing is common. 1500 plus is not!

3 THE MORE THE BETTER – How effective is a player at several different positions? Does he make an impact on both sides of the ball? Is his stat line long in different categories?

4 DEFENSE – Defensive players have to totally own the field. Triple digit tackles are great. But how many are solos? How many are TFLs? Gotta have double digit sacks and defensive backs have to have take aways. All that to say, defensive players have to get the ball back for the offense. Turnovers are key!

5 THE GUNSLINGER – QBs must have a low turnover rate. Pro style QBs have to post more than 2k passing yards. Dual Threat QBs have to post a balanced amount of rush and pass yards.

6 RECEIVERS – 1K receiving yards or better and have to live in the end zone.

Overall, Player of the Year has to separate from the rest. The player must do what the others are not. His impact has to be so significant that the team would take a nose dive without him. How many players fit this category?  Not many.  Be on the look out for the Player of the Year Watch List. Coming soon!
