Lakewood and SPC slim on numbers

4:11p – Lakewood, St. Petersburg, FL
I arrived after traveling down a flooded Kennedy Blvd, slow paced I-275 South and rain that would not let up. The storm got even worse and I’m not talking weather, as I stepped out on the practice field. 10 steps ahead of me was the athletic trainer with a list of names in hand. She approached Coach Moore [Cory Moore, Lakewood Head Football Coach] and the storm started. The names on the list were players who did not have completed paperwork. Let’s just say, the number was large enough to where practice turned into personal workouts for the kids who did get their paperwork done and turned in. Needless to say, Coach Moore and staff were not happy campers, but the sun always shines after the storm. I could talk about Dante Fowler for days, but he was not the center of attention for BCP on this day. The 8th best offensive tackle (according to the BCP player rankings) was on display, Isaiah Wynn and he commanded attention. The 6-3/285lbs, 2014 prospect worked against Fowler during 1 on 1 drills and held his own. He has a big frame, good feet and plays with an excellent pad level. Dante got the best of him the majority of the time. But if you can win 4 of 10 against Fowler, you are doing something right. Lakewood’s team speed is still impressive. The Griffin brothers and Little, make for a fast secondary. QB, Tracy Johnson will have a number of targets to get the ball to that can go the distance at anytime.

I arrived at St. Petersburg Catholic and must say, SPC is a beautiful campus. Players spoke highly of the new staff under head coach Steve Dudley. Not many observations here because of the walk thru pace and teaching. 2013 RB/CB, Ryan Green, who currently holds offers from Florida State and Kentucky is a great looking kid, very fast and agile. About 40 kids were present today. Other than that, there was not much action, but lots of walking and talking.
