Spectrum Sports describes The Lakeland Christian vs Berkeley Prep game as “It was a Monday night thriller on Spectrum Sports in Polk County, as Lakeland Christian narrowly escaped with a 48-40 victory over Berkeley Prep.” That’s about right. An outstanding back and forth game with big plays and lots of action.
- The two teams combined for 735 total yards. The defenses took the night off. The deep ball was a trick play and the inside run was being executed as if the offenses were running plays on air.
- Big plays all over. Deep passes, big hits, special team returns created lots of excitement on the night.
- Lakeland Christian WR Tanner Molony finished the game with 315 all-purpose yards, five receptions for 166 yards, three TDs, 149 kickoff return yards (including a 98-yd TD return) and two made field goals (43 and 44 yards).
- The time off seemed to have a big impact on special teams specifically kick off coverage for both teams. Every other series one of the offenses was starting on the opponents side of the field because of a big kickoff returns…direct effect of bad kick off coverage.
- Berkeley Prep QB Joshua Youngblood finished with 220 passing yards, 88 rushing yards, 75 kickoff return yards and five total TDs. Oh, played every snap of defense (safety) also.
- Lakeland Christian QB Tate Whatley finished the night 14 of 16 for 225 yards and three TD passes, while running for another 77 yards.
- Fantastic crowd for a Monday night. Lakeland Christian’s stadium is one-sided, but has expanded slightly adding a small amount of bleachers on the east side of the field.
