As expected, 70 of the best quarterbacks from Tampa Bay and surrounding areas gathered at Skyway Youth Sports Complex to compete in the annual Kaleo QB Challenge.
This year a combine testing element was incorporated where the QBs were timed in the 40 yard dash, short shuttle and measure in the broad jump. Once all numbers were calculated the participants warmed up to prepare for the challenge.
Former Tampa Bay high studs, Robert Marve (Plant), Brandon Hawkins (Alonso), Pete Dinovo (East Lake), Zach Benjamin (Tampa Catholic), Tracy Johnson (Lakewood), Marquez Valdes (Lakewood), Nate Mills (Sickles) and Christian Strong (Countryside) were all on hand to assist in the QB Challenge. All QBs rotated through four stations which tested accuracy, arm strength, touch and mobility. The top two performers for each graduating class advanced to the finals.
2014

2015
Jordan Leston, East Lake
Brad Mayes, Berkley Prep
2016
Rex Culpepper, Plant
Chris Oladokun, Alonso
2017

Heading into the championship competition, Alonso’s Chris Oladokun (2013 BCP Ignite participant) led all QBs with the highest point total followed by Colby Brown, Plant. It came down to the final throw where Palm Harbor’s Tyler Kaminiski had a chance to tie or take the lead over Chris Oladokun. Kaminiski would not make the mark and the 2016 QB out of Alonso would hold on with an overall impressive day and impressive final performance to earn the title of 2013 Kaleo QB Challenge Champion.
