PINELLAS COUNTY RECRUITING RECRUITING FEATURES

Jordan Edwards, “…they are just starting to find out who I am and my abilities.”

Jordan Edwards, Lakewood

Lakewood’s defense never really gets the credit they deserve. Probably because their offense is so high powered and talented. They put up points and do it in stylish fashion. However, the Spartan defense is just as good. A little meaner, rougher, rugged and get it done up front and on the back end in the secondary.

We spoke with Lakewood 2015 defensive end Jordan Edwards who was a 1st team 2013 All BCP selection. He totaled 99 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and 25, YES 25 sacks. Edwards was a monster in every sense of the word; Reeling in ball carriers and harassing passers. In a short question and answer period, Edwards pulled down his guards and let us into his world.

BCP: What is your focus this off-season?
EDWARDS: My focus this off season is to stay in the gym four times a week, working on strength and agility training. I want to improve my get off and using my hands more, as well as, making improvements that Coach Moore and the Lakewood coaching staff have pointed out to me. I’m also focusing on academics. I want to raise my 3.68 GPA to above a 4.0. My goal is to be in the top 10% of my class in the CAT program at Lakewood by graduation.

BCP: How do you compare to top area prospects at the same position?
EDWARDS: Compared to top area prospects, I feel I am able to compete neck and neck with the best of them. When it comes to tackles, my 99 for the season mAy not have been the highest, but it’s not that far off. My ability to stay in my opponents’ backfields is one of my best qualities. One stats that stands out compared to top area prospects, my 24 regular season and 1 post-season sack count.

BCP: What’s your purpose for competing at Ignite in a few weeks?
EDWARDS: My purpose for competing at Ignite is to be able to show off my skills. I want to show my strength and my speed. I also want to get my name out to recruiters, as well as prove I am as good as my stats say I am.

BCP: Which colleges have started showing serious interest?
EDWARDS: As of yet, no colleges have shown serious interest in me. In my opinion, this is because they are just starting to find out who I am and my abilities.

Jordan Edwards is expected to be one of the top performers at the 2014 BHSN/BCP Ignite Elite Showcase on January 12th.
