Averaging 120 yards per game, on just 89 carries, totaling 739 yards in just six games and 12 rushing TDs; sounds like a productive player any coach would want on their team.

Such a player goes by the name of Jarvis Stewart, Largo junior running back possessing all the physical attributes of a great back. His ability and talent was never in question. His character and behavior raised eyebrows.

After a solid, but disappointing 2011 season, where Stewart rushed for 739 yards in just six games before being sidelined due to a hip injury, Jarvis had to learn a life lesson the hard way. He was suspended for Largo’s first round playoff game vs. Hillsborough last season, then removed from the school in the spring of 2012. What did this do to a running back that one day may write his own ticket to the college football program of his choice? “I knew I had to get myself right then. I went to another school. Went there for about six weeks or so. Came back to Largo, doing my stuff now, “ explained Stewart.

Can Largo win without Jarvis Stewart? Yes! But why would they want to? He is a 5-11/190lbs junior who can run around defenders, through tacklers and past defenses. He brings an attitude to the Packer team that spreads throughout the locker room. Each opposing team prepares for stopping Largo and attempting to slow down Stewart.

Before the hip injury in game six vs. Dixie Hollins, Stewart did damage: 165 yards vs. Southeast, 105 yards vs. Pinellas Park, 182 yards vs. Osceola, 229 yards vs. East Lake and 7 carries for 28 yards vs. Dixie Hollins (before injury). Countryside limited him to 21 yards on 13 carries.

So where does Stewart start from going forward? “Just to get my mind right. Just been working out really. Get back on the team and show them I can be in it with them.” Interesting fact: Jarvis has a twin brother, Javon Stewart, who is his fullback and also plays LB for the Packers. “We both work together. We know what’s going on between each other.”

Nebraska, Vanderbilt and Miami are showing interest in the 2014 RB. He is easily one of the best running backs in Tampa Bay. What makes him a really good player? “I’m really good at running back. I have vision, speed and I come up hard hitting”

Stewarts says he wants to rush for 200 yards each game this year. He had three games over 160 yards last season. He is healthy and humbled. His return seems to be welcomed by his teammates and coaches. The future is bright and the ceiling is high for Largo’s running back. It will be up to Jarvis to accomplish his goals and reach his potential.
