It’s never too early: 3 QB’s from ’17 to check

There seems to be a ton of talk recently about the members of the classes of 2018 and 2019, but we want to show some love to the guys that will be upperclassmen before we can blink in a couple years. Here are three prospects from the Class of 2017 that we really think you should keep close tabs on come this fall and beyond.

Leland Johansen IV, East Lake (5-11.5,170)
We really liked the way this young man finished the day at the e7 Summer camp in Land O’Lakes a week ago. Johansen had a perfect night when his turn in the rotation was called going 7-for-7 in the Eagles’ game versus Osceola this spring. As mentioned, Johansen’s a part of a three-man rotation at East Lake and has just as good a shot as his other teammates to gain full control. Whoever takes full-time charge of the position, they’ll have to replace Jake Hudson’s 2,143 yards and 26 touchdowns. Should be fun to watch if Johansen’s end of camp film and spring film carry over this fall.

Josh Belton, Canterbury (6-1,204)
Nice frame on this young man along with the ability to throw a nice deep ball. Still two years to go and a possible addition-by-subtraction of sorts for his team as they drop into the Independent division of the FHSAA and out of Class 2A that would have placed them in a district with Admiral Farragut and Indian Rocks Christian. Instead, Belton gets to cut his teeth against teams he should excel against and show why his stock is continuously rising with us.

Corey King II, Plant City (6-2,180)
We really like the direction this young man is headed. He had a great camp at Ignite and e7 Spring and performed quite well for the Raiders against Strawberry Crest in a 14-0 victory in one half of play. King shared time with Austin Carswell last season for the Pirates compiling over 750 yards of total offense and and five touchdowns. He was also very accurate completing 39-of-60 of his passes.
