In a recruiting year saturated with offensive linemen, highlighted by a NFL draft where the offensive linemen were selected left and right, it is only right for us to keep the party going and introduce you to a promising offensive line prospect from Polk County.
Frostproof 2014 OT, Michael McFarland is a big body, long lineman who has progressed since last season. Tips the scale at 6-3/270lbs with room to grow and a body to build on.
McFarland gave us a minutes to ask a few questions and he provided a few answers. Check these out and then see his 2012 film below.
What have you improved on since last season?
Umm, my pass set and drops for sure. I’ve spent the whole off season perfecting my craft. I’ve experimented with different techniques I’ve learned. And I feel I have a pretty fundamentally sound pass pro set now. Understanding the game as a whole, knowing what my team is trying to accomplish on each play. Different scenarios I may be put in offense and defensive wise. Really studying game film and breaking it down. I’ve put on more weight. I played the season at 250 or so but now I’m a solid 270 and I still have the same mobility as I did last year. So that will defiantly help my game on both sides of the ball.
What schools are really wanting to see you in the spring to get a better evaluation?
South Florida, Florida, Miami, Georgia Southern, Charleston Southern, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, South Alabama, Troy, Georgia Tech, Ole MIss and Auburn.
Which schools have you been in close contact with?
Florida Atlantic, South Florida, Harvard, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss
How would you grade your spring development on a scale of A-F and why?
I’d like to say an A but in all honesty probably a B+. I learned more about the game of football; it’s in and outs. I feel even more game smart than I did last year. By adding more weight but keeping my speed, I know I’ll be a threat. I’ve gotten a lot stronger but there’s still parts of my game that can improve before I go on to the next level. Which is why I say a B+.
