Initial Team Tampa observations

Team Tampa did what Team Tampa expected to do this afternoon for their first four games. Undefeated starting tonight’s contests, Team Tampa had chances to dominate some games. However, wins are wins. Below are a few notes on players who stood out for Team Tampa.

Pete Dinovo, East Lake 2013 QB
Good day for Dinovo. He looked solid. At times, timing was off. That is to be expected on a team with so may receivers and limited practice time. Best balls he threw all day were the intermediate, over the middle passes. Very crisp and put the ball on the money.

Brad Muhammad, Admiral Farragut 2013 DB
Just what the doctor ordered for Team Tampa. Biggest surprise of the day. He contested every pass and became a fixture at LB for the defense.

Richard Benjamin, TBT 2013 WR
Richard Benjamin, TBT 2013 WR

Richard Benjamin, Tampa Bay Tech 2013 WR
Benjamin really got going game 3 and 4.  He was clutch during game 3 providing several key receptions and first dawns for the offense.  He and Gaither QB, Alex McGough found a rhythm late in the game.  During game four, he went off.  Grabbing 4 receptions and a big TD.

Vernon Hargreaves, Wharton 2013 CB
Hard to find work for the #1 CB in the nation. But, when he did he showed why he was the best of the best. As I reflect, I don’t believe I saw one pass completed on his side when he was in the game.

Travis Johnson, Jesuit 2013 WR
When a play needed to be made, Dinovo put the ball in the hands of Travis Johnson. If today was a glimpse of what is to come at Miami, then the Hurricanes are in for a treat. Johnson dropped one pass and a defensive penalty was thrown on that play. He owned the middle of the field and played excellent.

Artavis Scott, East Lake 2014 WR
Take a picture and save it. This young man will be special. He was very elusive and made every effort to make his QB look good. Time after time he was coming up with first down yardage.

Alvin Bailey, Armwood 2013 Slot
Bailey had a great day, but one play stands out over all the rest. Shaquill Griffin makes a great defensive play to get the defense off the field. Second down for Team Tampa, Dinovo throws a check down pass to Bailey for what appeared to be just a 6-8 yard gain. Bailey, hesitates, accelerates and then slams back inside evading two defenders to score and spark the tempo for Team Tampa (see hilites later).

Every player contributed, but the players listed made several key plays at several times in each contest.

Note: Shaquill Griffin, Lakewood 2013 DB, knocked one kids head off! Now, this is a non padded, limited contact tournament. However, if this would have been a padded event, the EMS may have been called. (see Hilites later)
