Indians throw down the spear for spring

East Bay RBs during position drills

Spring is here and that means football practice is back in full swing. First stop: East Bay. The Indians return plenty from their winning formula from last season. Primarily on defense where Marques Ford, Eric Latortue, Leto, Angulo and Sails all return. The offense will need some restocking after the offense backfield will have several new members, but the offensive line will have some experience.

Shorts and Shirts
Not much to evaluate today as the players went through practice in shorts and shirts, listening and learning. However, several players stood out during individual drills. Jordan Anderson is expected to take over for Chris Carpentier at quarterback and he looked much more confortable operating in the East Bay offense. We want to see him develop into a consistent passer as he has a big frame, commanding voice and enough athleticism.

Caleb Holley set the tone for the offensive line. A bully of an offensive linemsn who moved well during individual drills. Anthony Clayton owns the opposite side of the line. Similar player to Holley; mean, strong and loves to be in the trenches.

Three New Names
Caleb Gregory 2016 OT/DT 6-5/270 – Basketball player, first year football player who knows pretty much nothing (about football). But just wait. He caught on real quick today with basic techniques and introductory plays. Looks to have a mean streak. Quick and nimble.

Davonte Williams 2015 DE 6-3/200 – Could be one of the most athletic players on the East Bay spring roster. Very fast and well balanced. The young man has a big burst and turns the corner extremely well.

Brandon Frazier 2016 CB 5/11 – Keep an eye on this young man. The Indian Secondary has an opening at CB and Frazier could lock it up. I was not able to see much because it was an intro day. However, he moved well and caught my eye.
