HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY RECRUITING THE BOX

In the backfield with James Few

In the backfield with James Few
Plant High, 2012 QB
3:30p Monday at Plant High

BCP: How would you critique yourself after your first two games?
FEW: First of all 2-0 is not bad. That’s my main goal, that’s our main goal as a team. I threw the ball around alright. I would like us to fire out more. Have a little more explosion than we did against Hillsborough.

BCP: How did you perform during your summer showcase circuit where you traveled to a number of different camps and played in a number of different 7 on 7 tournaments?
FEW: I performed well. We won a few 7 on 7 tournaments. I attended a bunch of Ivy League schools. I think about 5 or 6. Did 4 camps in 4 days at one point.

BCP: How is recruiting going for you?
FEW: It’s going well. No offers yet, but I have a number of Ivy League schools, D2 and D3 schools looking at me.

BCP: How does James Few fight off Aaron Banks, replace Phillip Ely and then try and lead the team?

FEW: You could say it’s a big task to take on or you could do what I try and do, which is block it all out. Aaron is my teammate first of all. Whatever I can do to help the team, he can do to help the team…it’s like any other position. Everyone is helping out the team. I have spoken with Phil [Phillip Ely] a lot. He gives me a lot of confidence. Tells me not to let all the outside stuff get to me. Just play football!

BCP: How difficult of a task is it to “block it out” [outside interference]? Easier said than done?
FEW: I wouldn’t say ‘easier said than done’ right now, because I haven’t gotten a lot of publicity. I haven’t gotten a lot of direct publicity. Everyone is kinda talking about ‘James and Aaron, James and Aaron’, but haven’t spoken to us to get our opinion on it. We are a tight knit quarterback family. It’s really not that difficult. I come to school, go to practice, go home, do my home work and come back to school in the morning.

BCP: What are your own expectations?
FEW: They were to earn a starting QB spot. As time went along I started to focus on the team and my goals started to become team oriented and win a state championship.

BCP: Having those skilled athletes around you like Austin Aikens and Antonio Crawford, does it make your life easier?
FEW: Of course! I’ll take Austin [Aikens] over anyone in a jump ball. Antonio Crawford is blazing fast. But, we also have other playmakers like Wesley Bullock, Derrick Mann, Dan Cassile and others

BCP: What would you like to say to the Plant Faithful and your fan base?
FEW: Keep your eyes open. Come to all the games, especially this one in Manatee. We need a lot of support. Don’t expect anything else from this team.
