IMG: The buzz about the QBs

Chase Litton

IMG 7v7 Southeast Regional QB Buzz

Alex McGough, Gaither
Stirred up the most conversation of all the QBs. Really impressed the right people. Showed footwork, timing, ball placement and accuracy. As I was filming, spectators would make comments along the lines of, “That kid is throwing that ball. What’s his names? How many offers does he have?” Currently, McGough has no verbal offers and will likely be the “Pete Dinovo” of the year; during the summer, a few teams will fall in love with him.

Brad Mayes, Berkeley Prep
What was glaringly obvious, Brad’s mechanics are more advanced than one would expect a 2015 QB’s mechanics should be. I had one IMG representative ask if Mayes was a rising senior and what schools [colleges] were looking at him. Did not make a bunch off splash plays, rather took what the defense gave him and did not miss much.

Chase Litton, Wharton
If you had to guess, which QB of the many competing was the best looking prospect, Litton would be the obvious answer. Even though, this was 7 on 7, he did not get away from his technique, which was encouraging. Never stood flat footed and went through his progressions on 80% of the plays. At times, he got comfortable and began to stare down receivers. But that did not last long. Threw a lot of balls and the arm strength was consistent. Had a really good tournament.

Deiondre Porter, Jefferson
The best part of Porter’s performance, he gave his receivers the opportunity to make plays on the ball. Was not afraid to take shots down field. Several times, spectators would say, “He can throw it!” Which is a true statement.

Dwayne Lawson, Hillsborough
“Raw!” That was used so many times about Lawson. It’s true! He does have a lot of raw ability. Can he turn the God given, “Raw” ability into refined, technical movements with out losing his fluidness and natural ability to throw the ball? Lots of people liked him.

Sean White, University School
New name, don’t know anything about this player. But, I will tell you this, threw the best deep ball of any QB at the tourney. Not even a question about it. The ball came off so smooth, effortless and 7 out of 10 times, it was on the money. I was standing with one gentleman from a scouting service and his exact words were “That ball looked better than my wife when she was 23.” Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I assume his wife was a “looker” back in the day and he sure thought highly of the deep ball White threw.
