“ICE” Cold: BTW 4A state champs

4A 2012 State Championship Game Miami Booker T Washington vs Bolles Bulldogs

In our only rematch of last year’s state title series Corky Rogers brings his Bolles Bulldogs and 11 championship rings back to Orlando to see if they can Upset the number 1 team in 4A again in the Booker T Washington Tornadoes.  Last year Bolles fell behind early only to storm back and win the 11th title which is unprecedented in the state of Florida.  This year the Tornadoes are looking for redemption and to avoid the letdown.  One must know that what happened last year is at the forefront of their minds.  The proof is in the pudding as BTW jumped out to 13-0 a lead and never relinquished it winning…. 35-7 in dominating fashion.

The 1st quarter only yielded 1 touchdown when Treon Harris found a streaking Deltron Hopkins who weaved his way to an 87 yard touchdown reception.  BTW had other chances to score early as the got down to the 10 yard line twice but the lack of a sufficient kicking game led them to go for it on 4th down failing both times.  Bolles offense was stalled out through the 1st quarter only amounting 21 total yards compared to BTW 142 total yards.

Working with a short field in the 2nd quarter Treon Harris was able to find running room as he gained 30 yards on 4 carries which he capped off with a 12 yard TD run to put BTW up 13-0.  Bolles did not quit though after being down.  They fought back and put together an impressive drive with a few uncharacteristic passes and some savy running by Arterious Mitchell.  With only 22 seconds remaining in the half Cobly Peters found Mitchell for a 4 yard TD pass to give the bulldogs some hope as they closed in on the Tornadoes 13-7 going into the half.

Last year in the 2nd half the Tornadoes fell apart but you could tell coach Ice Harris was having none of that this year as his team was ready and rolling.  BTW led by Matthew Thomas on defense kept Bolles to less than 100 yards of offense through 3 quarters.  Meanwhile the offense took off in exploding fashion scoring 3 times in the 3rd.  Treon Harris had his hand in all of them the 1st being a 30 yard TD pass to Karim Bryant.  He followed those up with a 3 yard td run and a 1 yard TD run.  At that point there was no hope for Bolles as the Tornadoes defense would not let up as they did last year.  The 4th quarter was over and done with without any extracurricular activities from Bolles in the form of a comeback.

With a 35-7 victory in the 4A state title coach Ice Harris wins his 2nd state title after returning to the school he brought their 1st title too.
