BOYS BASKETBALL

Hoops: Leto Falcons, step by step

Leto High School Falcons are no longer the doormats of the hardwood. The 10-8 Falcons are making strides and it has started with the brotherhood and cohesiveness. Head basketball coach Michael Heben says the Team chemistry is the start. “We have a tight knit group who get along well and share common goals. We have become much closer as the season has gone on.”

According to Heben, the player that has surprised the most is Joe Bergollo, 6’2 senior G/F. “This is Joe’s first year playing high school basketball so he was an unknown going into the season. He has provided toughness, scoring and rebounding and is avg 10.1 ppg, 8.9 rpg.”

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER FROM LAST SEASON: David Jones (jr) – added 25lb’s of muscle in the off season while working his butt off EVERYDAY to improve his entire game. Coach also mentioned Silas Thompson (jr) who worked hard all off season to add size/strength and to improve his game. Last year was his first year ever on a basketball team and he was a reserve on JV and didn’t play much. This year he is a rotational varsity player.

On 1/6 Leto played Jefferson “very tough” and lost by only 8 points. “We played Jefferson very tough and lost by only 8 points. We were behind by only 4 with 3 minutes left. We previously lost to Jefferson by 27 earlier in this season. We grew up in this game and learned how to handle and beat pressure.”

TEAM’S STRENGTH: “Scrappiness, toughness and effort. We do a good job changing defenses and sharing the ball on offense. Our team has settled into and accepted their roles. Also, we have one of the best players in the county on our team in David Jones.” – Michael Hebsen
