TAMPA– When I last caught up with Hillsborough’s Jordan Sherit, the junior defensive lineman was fielding offers from only five schools. Since that conversation over two months ago, the number has climbed to 18 and now includes names like Ohio State, Stanford and Notre Dame.

Still, Sherit remains focused on not only his academics (as pointed out here), but on the Terriers’ chances of returning to the postseason in 2012.

He carries the championship mentality to his football and track career, with guidance from his track coach Joe Sipp.

Sipp, who Sherit calls a “father figure”, formerly served as the school’s offensive line coach and helped him get stronger as a player and as a person.

” He has been like a father figure for me at school always making sure I am where I need to be,” Sherit said. “I spend, the majority of my offseason with him.”

He added that as a sophomore he wasn’t the greatest player in the world, however with Sipp’s help, he quickly progressed.

“At offensive tackle, when I was maybe 205-pounds, I made second team all-conference,” Sherit said. “So if he can make me, a tall lanky sophmore at the time, into a pretty good offensive lineman, he can do anything.”

As the offseason rolls on, Sherit has set a few goals for himself to get where he wants to go.

“I want to work on getting off the ball a little quicker, putting on a little weight, and get my pass rushing technique to a very high level,” Sherit said.

He added that he is seeing a lot of “hard interest” from Notre Dame, Miami, Vandy, Stanford, Ohio State, Oklahoma and South Florida.

He thanked Sipp for helping him get to this point.

“More than a great coach, he’s an even better person and role model,” Sherit said. “I am truly blessed to know him and I know we will keep in contact even when I’m in college.”

Meanwhile his teammate, Nigel Harris, has been getting looked at by UMass, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Alabama Birmingham, South Florida and Western Kentucky.

Harris, a linebacker, finished his sophomore year with 89 total tackles.
