Hernando defensive lineman Malcolm Hudson just wants a chance

Hernando defensive lineman Malcolm Hudson just wants a chance. The 17 year old Brooksville resident set his eyes on the path to a big senior year last spring. His first stop was the Big County Preps Ignite Combine in Tampa. He made his presence felt in a dominating fashion. His power and quickness was too much for any of the offensive linemen to handle. He pulled out moves that even had spectator Anthony Chickillo shaking his head. Malcolm came away from the event with the award for most outstanding defensive lineman. He continued working hard throughout the offseason in preparation for a season of high expectations at Hernando.

At 5-11 230 lbs, Hudson is a very versatile player. He is strong on the inside against the run and an absolute menace on the outside while getting after quarterbacks. He could have played linebacker as well, but his disruptive power was utilized by Hernando in the trenches. Malcolm and his Purple Haze defense were more than ready for Hernando’s new challenges in District 6A-6. The Leopards swept the district en route to their first district championship since 1997. Malcolm finished the season with 55 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 2 recoveries. He also pulled in an interception, batted down 3 passes, blocked a punt and had a defensive touchdown. He shined in Hernando’s toughest game of the season. In a heated playoff game against Gainesville, Malcolm finished with 11 tackles, 2 pass deflections, and a critical diving interception.

Opposing coaches acknowledged Malcolm’s efforts this past season by voting him onto the FACA District 10 All-Star Team. The local media then also placed him on the 2011 All-Suncoast First Team Defense and the 2011 All-North Suncoast First Team Defense.

His final high school victory came in Sebring in December as he helped the North team blow out the South team 47-21. The South team had an offensive line stocked with several D1 stars like Jessamen Dunker, Cody Waldrop, and Forest Lamp. It didn’t matter. Malcolm performed as he had all season. His motor never stopped. He beat them off of the snap every time. He once again proved that he can play with anyone if given the chance. He has also performed just as well in the classroom. His grades and test score are just as solid as his play on the field. A school somewhere is going to get a steal.
