SEFFNER – Armwood Hawks scored on their first 5 out of 6 drives and led throughout the contest to beat the previously undefeated Hillsborough Terriers, 38-20, to win the district title.
Hawks scored touchdowns on a 20-yard catch and run by senior Erin Collins from junior Devin Black, a 1-yard run by junior Brian Snead, a 13-yard run by Devin Black, an 89-yard kickoff return by junior Jerome Ford, and then senior kicker Nikko Arvantis added 22 and 24 yard field goals.
Black went 11-for-19 for 121 yards and one touchdown and had 13 rushes for 145 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Snead rushed 23 times for 146 yards and one touchdown. Ford had 177 all-purpose yards and one return touchdown.
Arwood’s defensive got contributions from junior Caleb Sutherland with 2 sacks, a tackle-for-loss, and a pass defended, from senior Jabreel Stephens with sack, 2 quarterback hurries and a tackle-for-loss, and from Mekhi LaPointe with tackle-for-loss and a pass defended.
Terriers scored on a 76-yard kickoff return by senior Duran Bell Jr, a 29-yard catch by senior CJ Williams and a 40-yard catch by senior Caleb Youngblood from sophomore Tyler Thomas.
Bell had 228 all-purpose yards and one return score. Thomas was 11-of-23 for 192 yards and two touchdowns. CJ Williams had 4 catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Hillsborough senior Zach Carter had a sack, 2 quarterback hurries, and a tackle-for-loss and senior Armand Chalk had a sack and a pass defended.
