Gaither cruises past Leto, 69-0

From the opening kickoff, to the very last snap, Gaither controlled possession – and the scoreboard – en route to a 69-0 thrashing of Leto on Friday night.

Out of the four plays and 129 yards that senior Cowboys’ (2-0) halfback Vu Le appeared in, perhaps the most crucial and eye opening touchdown he had, was the first play of the game — a 69 yard break away run down the sideline.

The touchdown, one of two on the night for Le, set the tone for the Gaither, and they didn’t look back.

“It’s tough to see the Leto kids lose like this. I mean, they worked their butts off as well as us,” said second-year Cowboys coach Jason Stokes. “That’s tough (for them) to lose like this, but I am proud of my kids and I am proud that they understand that this is what football means.”

In the first half alone, Gaither out drove Leto by 250 yards, while putting up five touchdowns.

Alex McGough threw for over 100 yards and threw for four of his squad’s touchdowns. Running back Josh Bell, who transferred from Blake at the conclusion of last season, finished it off with a 56 yard touchdown in wildcat formation.

“Every practice, we make it more and more competitive, we get out and practice, try to get better and sharpen each other to make each other better football athletes,” Stokes said. He then added, “I appreciate it that they came out tonight and showed hard work and played with pride.”

The Cowboys travel to Plant City (1-1) next Friday, while Leto will be on the road at Riverview. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
