Gaither 42, Steinbrenner 10

Cowboys made big plays on offense, defense and special teams for a 42-10 season-opening victory over Warriors.

Senior athlete Trentyn Jackson had three touchdowns on an 85-yard interception return, a 31-yard catch, and a 9-yard run and senior running back TJ Williams added two touchdowns on receptions of 64 and 28 yards.

Junior quarterback Gavin DenBoer went 10-for-18 for 204 yards with two touchdown passes.

Gaither’s defense forced six turnovers (three interceptions and three fumble losses) and return team blocked a punt.

Junior linebacker Matthew Wood forced two turnovers, recovered two fumbles, and had a tackle-for-loss. Senior linebacker Decalon Brooks had a sack and two tackle-for-losses. Senior linebacker Estefano Feliciano had a sack, pass knockdown behind line-of-scrimmage, and a pass defense in secondary.

Steinbrenner’s senior linebackers Dane Coleman had a sack, four tackle-for-losses and a pass defense and Zach Schachter had a 18-yard scoop and score and had two tackle-for-losses. Junior linebacker Cameron Woodward had two tackle-for-losses and the forced fumble that resulted in the scoop and score. Senior cornerback Ryan Bogdanski had three pass defenses including a pass breakup in the end zone.

Warriors senior kicker/punter, Noah Ruggles, hit on a 35-yard field goal and after a punt was snapped over his head was able to recover and boom a punt that was downed at Cowboy’s 1-yard line.
