PINELLAS COUNTY THE BOX

Full Moon in Pinellas

1. Say it with me now… “CCC, CCC”. The Marauders have again shocked the world on their quest for a playoff berth by beating favored Tampa Catholic 24-17. They now have a bye week to get healthy and ready to face the Nelson Agholor led Berkley Prep Buccaneers. Once again CCC will come into this game as an underdog by most but the question is Does John Davis have more magic in his bag? Halloween is right around the corner so Trick or Treat.

2. Mr. Fowler is back… and Lakewood is streaking right into a district showdown with Jesuit. Many say the district must now go through 54th avenue South St. Pete but I am here to say “NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND”. Sorry, you just can’t beat Seminole with a comeback and then barely beat Middleton and then really get very fortunate against a Gibbs team that has like 4 players out with torn ACLs and be considered the team any district goes through. Lakewood has shown that they are a very good team this year and they have some good players such as Rodney Adams who was a standout at St. Petersburg Catholic (SPC) before transferring to Lakewood, but I am not ready to crown them just yet.

3. 2A-5 Update… Yes I am still a fan of this small school district. Despite what the naysayers tell you these kids are playing some good football and many of their games are much more exciting than the bigger schools. Last week Admiral Farragut held on to beat Indian Rocks Christian 34-32 and are firmly planted into the runner up spot as of now. Canterbury the only team to beat AFA edged out CDS and are still on top of the district lead by super RB Brent O’Neal who currently leads the entire Bay area in rushing with 1181 yards.

4. Tarpon: No Head Coach…… Okay now they have problems. After losing to Lakewood Ranch they are on the outside looking in on the playoff picture. They still have games left with District favorite Largo and a spoiler team in Boca Ciega

5. Shot out to the stat leaders. All 3 of these individuals lead the entire Bay area at their prospective positions in yardage.
1) Tracy Johnson QB Lakewood 1233yds 15TDs (only 3ints)
2) Brent O’Neal RB Canterbury 1181yds 13TDs
3) Kenyatta Merriex WR Tarpon 622yds 4TDs

6. SPC has been depleted by transfers. Just think if they had held onto Dante Fowler, Rodney Adams, and Ryan Davis to add to Ryan Green this team might actually be competitive and winning games right now.
