6-3/215 lbs Frostproof rising sophomore quarterback, Xavier Gaines holds early verbal offers from Florida State, Ohio State, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Louisville and receiving interest from Baylor.  With the early notoriety, Gaines has stayed focused and grounded preparing for the upcoming season. “Me and my teammates workout and grind everyday, and we’re just taking it game by game.  No team goals really! Me…I just hope to have a successful season, passing rating improve and leadership with the team!”

He talks like a young man ahead of his years. Very mature and well spoken. Seems to see the big picture which has more people in it than himself. What was evident, he wants to be great. Not just good. He talks improvement and has taken steps to do just that. Gaines says, “Reading coverages, is probably my weakness!” So to make this weakness a strength he has “Gotten on the board this summer, a lot!” For a young QB to understand what he needs to work on and take the proper actions to fix the problem, is a clear sign of leadership and hunger.

“I’ve camped at FSU this summer actually last week and I plan to go to a fundamental camp” says Gaines. The summer which will be big to propel him to a better season than the last. Once mid season hits the recruiting process for this prospect will surge. “I wish to learn everything about the recruiting process. I know a little something right now.” But the phone calls, the mail, the attention can overwhelm even the most level headed prospects.
