Down in Sarasota today, Riverview High School hosted the Nike Team Florida, The Workout showcase. Many top rated 2015 and 2016 prospects showed up to compete. Here are some observations.
Jonathan Jean, East Bay 2015 G
Started the day hot. As the competition turned up, so did Jean’s level of play. Displayed control and leadership on offense. Aggressive toe to toe man to man defense. Had a few coast to coast layups after steals. Very impressive ball handling and pressed the floor to defeat the full court press. Finished in the lane and made players around him better.
Juwan Durham, Tampa Prep 2016 PF/C
The ceiling for Juwan is so high, he can’t even see it. The big man’s confidence grew as the day progressed. He is learning how to play in the post and showed his progression working on a few post moves. At 6-9, he is able to handle the ball on the perimeter and advance the ball from baseline to baseline. Is able to knock down the intermediate jumper and put the ball on the floor to get to the hoop.
Vic Sinopoll, Sarasota Riverview 2015 G
Showed an obvious understanding of the game. Shot the ball well from the outside
Gregg Kacprzak, Douglas 2015
Complete player and great vision. Owned the court with his ball handling and distribution. Able to finish in the paint after contact and can be extremely aggressive on both ends of the floor.
Wyatt Walker, Providence 2015 C
Very scrappy, big body kid. Really nice frame and good feet. Follows his shot and rebounded well. Showed the ability to run the floor and play tough in the paint on defense.
Antonio Blakney, Cardinal Mooney 2015 G
Very explosive. Springs off the ground in a hurry. Slasher! Can create his own shot and has very good speed. Attacking style of play.
Johnnie Coleman, Palm Beach Lakes 2015 G
Really good ball handler. Gets up and down the court in a hurry. Awesome court vision and distributed the ball effectively. Small in size, but finished at the bucket when he got into the paint.
Ryan McMohon, Cardinal Mooney 2015 G
Quick player with great handles and understanding of the game. Extremely good when in transition. Displayed vision and good perimeter shooting.
Haanif Cheatham, Pine Charter 2015 PG
Showed flashes of promise. Top prospect of the 2015 class according to many scouting websites. Tall and fast, with great vision. Able to get in the passing lanes on defense with long arms.
Prince Ali, Pine Charter 2015 SF
Serious springs, vertical bounce. Ran the floor and finished tough layups in the paint.
Jean-Michel Tine, Impact Academy 2016 PF/C
The young man is hungry to learn and develop. Very athletic and has a good basketball IQ to be so young. Good paint player, showed ability to face the basket and put the ball on the floor.
