Examine the QB: Wharton’s Chase Litton the lab rat

ARM STRENGTH
1:23 mark, you will see Litton get his “Aaron Murray” on. Aaron Murray (University of Georgia QB) was known for his arm strength. At the 1:23 mark, on the run, Litton throws a 5o yard deep ball, putting it on the money. Thing of beauty.

MECHANICS and DELIVERY
1:40 mark is perfect because the camera is zoomed in some and you can see Litton’s mechanics from start to finish:
– flips and finds the laces
– ball ear high
– standing tall as he pushes back into the pocket
– clean plant
– quick release
– does not wind up or side arm/sling the football
– because he feels the pressure, doesn’t have time to transfer weight to front leg, but that is situational.

ACCURACY
Hard to tell on a highlight film. However, you can see that each completion, Litton is putting the ball within the receivers frame. Basically, he is throwing catchable footballs consistently.

BALL PLACEMENT
:51 and 1:03 second mark is a great example of Litton throwing the sideline deep ball giving the receiver a chance to make a play on the ball.

FOOTWORK
1:03 mark, when a 3 or 5 or even 7 step drop is needed, the QB has has to stay discipline and execute it. Checkout the 1:03 clip for the footwork even though Litton is in the gun.

VISION AND POCKET PRESENCE
1:09 mark, the difficulty of executing the play action fake, feeling the pressure, attempting to get out the pocket, can’t get out the pocket, reacting quickly getting the ball out of his hands to the check down.

PLAY ACTION
First clip – Watch how Litton sells the run, awesome execution of the ball fake, snaps his head around and gets that quick set up before his release. BIG TIME!
