Evaluated 2014 and 2015 D1 college prospect QBs under 6 foot 2 inches

Kyle Ploucher, Tampa Catholic

In the world of college football recruiting, measurables are so important. Major D1 programs want players to be a certain height, with the ability to reach a certain weight.

No position is more examined and calculated than the quarterback. As history and numbers tell us, 6 foot 2 inches is the magical number for QBs. At that height or taller, Major division 1 schools really start to take notice. There are plenty exceptions to the rule, but the percentage highly favors the taller.

Below are a few area QBs who I feel are D1AA or higher quality prospects who are under 6-2. These guys have qualities of the higher recruited quarterbacks, but not the height. Here is why I believe these guys could be D1AA or higher signees. (Some QBs not listed are projected to play another position at the college level)

Kyle Ploucher, Tampa Catholic Hillsborough QB 2014 6-0/186
Very confident passer. Has a strong arm, good field awareness and pocket presence. More of a pocket passer than runner, but has the ability to scramble and make plays with his feet.

Blake Gomez, Clearwater Central Cath. Pinellas DQB 2014 5-11/185
Arguably the best runner of the bunch. This guy can scoot. But, he is a really good passer just the same. System QB in my estimation. Would really excel in a program that needs their QB to be a legitimate run threat.

Robby Hicks, Countryside Pinellas DQB 2014 6-0/175
Slippery when on the move. Can be a drop back or zone concept QB. Extremely accurate when on the run and can make every throw.

Dimitri Leverett, Bartow Polk QB 2014 6-0/195
One of the strongest arms in our coverage area. Runs well and in the right system, his athletic ability and arm strength could benefit a college program.

Brad Mayes, Berkeley Prep Hillsborough QB 2015 6-1/185
The most complete of the crew listed. Strong arm, very accurate and high football IQ.

Tyler Kaminski, Palm Harbor Pinellas QB 2014 6-0/200
Runs a lot better than one would think. Very good touch and delivery. His footwork is as good as any QB on this list.

Colby Brown, Plant Hillsborough QB 2014 6-0/190
Holds a verbal offer from Georgia State currently. He has extremely good mechanics and setup. Sweet release and sneaky strong arm.
