Enos, the LB wonder

All the hardware, scholarship offers and accolades are great…when you have them. Those awards earned for good reason. Awarded to unique individuals for their outstanding efforts and talents. Then there is respect!

Respect is a sacrifice. The kind where the task at hand means more than anything else at the time. In football, the way a player plays, earns him respect. Its’s easy to gain respect from your teammates, the guys and coaches who see you everyday and understand your motivation and drive. Hard to gain the respect from your opponent. The fellas across the field who go on first impressions only. However, the respect of your opponent often means more than any trophy, All American status or buckets of scholarship offers.

Rocky Enos, Wharton 2013 LB is one of those players, week in and week out, whom earns the respect of his opponent. It is getting to the point where area coaches are sending messages to me commenting on Rocky’s play and questioning why he has no scholarship offers. “Coach, Rocky Enos is the best LB we have seen in a long time. The kid is a beast. He told me he has not scholarship offers,” ~ unnamed opposing coach. “What’s the deal with Enos? STUD! How the hell has he not committed yet?” ~ unnamed opposing coach. The comments and questions are legit. He is a ballerĀ and he doesn’t have ONE scholarship offer.

Is it his size? NO. He stands 5-11 on a bad day and 6-0 when the sun shines on him the right way (Average size for a LB). 215 pounds, runs like a lion and can cover ground like a deer. Hits like Mike Tyson in his mid twentys and has a feel for the game like Clay Mathews.

So what’s the deal? I can’t put my finger on it. But, I am confident some lower level D1 schools and 1AA schools will come calling. With the efforts of The Wharton football staff, BCP and Sunshine Preps, something will shake up. This is one of those situations where the film speaks volumes and no need to sell the kid as a player.
