Emmitt Smith Announced as Florida’s Honorary Captain for Advocare Classic

When Florida and Michigan collide on Saturday at AT&T Stadium, two well-known names in the sports and business world will serve as Honorary Captains.

ARLINGTON, Texas – When Florida and Michigan meet in Saturday’s AdvoCare Classic at AT&T Stadium, two well-known names in the sports and business world will serve as Honorary Captains.
Emmitt Smith, the University of Florida and Pro Football Hall-of-Famer and all-time NFL rushing leader, will represent the Gators for the coin toss as UF’s Honorary Captain. UM’s representative will be Tom Kartsotis, the founder of the brand management and investment firm Bedrock Manufacturing of Plano.

After averaging 126.7 yards per game during his UF career (1987-89) — second only in Southeastern Conference history to Herschel Walker — Smith was a first-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 1990 and over his 15 seasons (13 in Dallas, the last two in Arizona) rushed for 18,355 yards, 164 touchdowns, won three Super Bowls and was voted to eight Pro Bowls. Smith was named Most Valuable Player following his 1993 season and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 2010.

The ninth AdvoCare Classic will be televised by ABC with Joe Tessitore providing the play-by-play, Todd Blackledge serving as color analyst, and Holly Rowe reporting from the sidelines. Calling the action on the ESPN Radio Network is Marc Kestecher. Barrett Jones is the color analyst, and Laura Rutledge will file reports from the playing field.

Game time for Saturday’s AdvoCare Classic (Sept. 2) is 3:30 p.m. (ET) / 2:30 p.m. (CT).
