Dwyer Dominates Lake Wales in 5A Finals

Lakeland – Although they were the consensus favorites to win a football championship, they were not able to deliver a ring. That did not stop the boys from Palm Beach County from going back to Palm Beach Gardens with a state title however during another season. This ring comes courtesy of the hardwood and a 72-57 rout of  hometown favorites Lake Wales.

The Panthers were in control from the opening tip when they jumped out to a 17-4 lead by the 1st media timeout. They went on to lead 29-13 by the end of the 1st Quarter and never looked back.

Two-sport star and University of Florida QB Commit Jacoby Brissett led the Panthers with 19 points. The Panthers were dominant in several other statistical categories. They out-rebounded the Highlanders 51-36. They also held Lake Wales to 31% shooting from the field and 20% from 3-pt range. Dwyer was also balanced in their scoring attack as well seeing four players in double-figures.

Something had to give however when both teams came riding long winning streaks. Lake Wales before today had won 23 consecutive games. Dwyer was riding a 28-game winning streak themselves. Lake Wales finishes the season with a 29-3 record while the Panthers conclude their dream season at 32-1. Their only loss coming to 6A Finalists Winter Park.
