Hillsborough has a recent history of developing young quarterbacks. You don’t have to look too far back, Jarred Fayson and Tarean Austin were both three starters for the Terriers that continued their college football career at division 1 universities. Dwayne Lawson could be the next.

At 6-5, Lawson has opened eyes and silenced doubters as a sophomore. In his first year as a starter, Lawson has directed the Terriers to a 7-1 season, their first district championship since 2006 and a win over area powerhouse Armwood. He is just getting started, but is a sponge for ways to improve, “I’ve developed in just knowing the game and how to overcome adversity when people doubt you,” said Lawson.

One would think Lawson’s biggest asset would be his size. That helps, but his football IQ would be a better asset. “My biggest assets as a player are my size and my brain. I can tell you a lot about a defense pre-snap and I’m only getting better”.

On the season, Lawson has completed 63 of 127 passes. Just under .5 completion percentage. He has thrown for 931 yards and averaging 116.4 yards per game with 10 TD passes and 11 interceptions. He is improving every snap, every game and the future is bright. Lawson admits that defeating Armwood was a big confidence booster because they were tough just as expected. “As a team, Armwood was pretty tough to play against but I love those tough test and being the underdog”!

IN HIS OWN WORDS
Where would you be without football? “I don’t know. Probably doing something competitive, being who I am I love to compete no matter who you are, what you do, how long you been doing it or how much depth there is on your roster”.
