Competition is what drives sports. The better competition, the stronger it will make a team. But, when the schedules are released, a team must play the teams that are on their schedule. No matter how strong or weak the teams are perceived to be.

Durant has done just that. The Cougars have proved to themselves and to doubters that they are a really good team. It it simple how they have done it…Beat the teams that line up against them. When the schedules are created every two years by Hillsborough County’s Athletic Director, head football coaches have very little say to almost none at all, on who they play. So when doubters scream “Who [Durant] have they played”, the answer is simple. The Cougars have played the teams that have lined up against them and defeated each and everyone of them.

Good teams win the games they are suppose to win and are victorious at the end of the games they are not suppose to win. Over the course of the season, Durant has not changed their stripes. They have overpowered teams with a massive offensive line, a stable of pile moving running backs and a solid defense.

The Durant offense has accounted for 3061 total yards of offense. 2180 of those yards derive from 371 rushing attempts. The Cougar are going to run the football, how is the opponent going to stop them? Of their 11 games so far, they have only had 3 games with a rushing total less than 200 yards (198 vs Brandon). In only one game, have they had less than 30 rushing attempts (29 vs. Wharton). Over the season, Durant has averaged 5.9 yards each rushing attempt. Basically, better than first down yardage every other rushing carry. Vs. King – 4.4 Y/C and Vs. Newsome – 4.7 Y/C were the only two games the Cougars did not average more than 5.4 yards per carry.

The bulk of the damaged done is by 2013 RB, Jamarlon Hamilton. The “J-Train” has carried the ball 158 times for 1172 yards. He is averaging 7.42 yards per carry and 130.2 yards per game. His 17 touchdowns have calculated to 104 points on the season and over 11 points per game. Tack on his 117 yards vs. Tampa Bay Tech and Hamilton has had eight games rushing for over 100 yards.

Durant has control of one thing; that’s whether they win or lose. To date, they have done nothing but win by imposing their will on the competition. Newsome is next in line for the second time. Expect noting to change for Durant while expecting one thing to continue…winning.
