HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY

Drought warning: Hillsborough County teams without a district title

It’s a new season, and that means it’s time for some schools to try and change their team histories and win a district championship. Although some schools have their work laid out for them this season, there’s a few teams from Hillsborough County on this list that are aiming to add their names to the list of champions sooner rather than later. Here now are the following teams that have yet to win a title in their schools’ history.

Bloomingdale – Established in 1987, the Bulls are 41-69 the last decade, but were district runners up in 2014 at 9-2. They last made to the playoffs before that in 2008 as runners-up in Class 5A, District 7.

Cambridge Christian – The Lancers are aiming for a title this season and this may be their best look yet. They’re 26-14 the past four seasons and have a winning record the past decade as well at 58-52.

Citrus Park Christian – Established as a program in just 2009, CPC is 21-37 in school history.

Freedom – The Patriots had a winning season in 2014 under Tom Donohoe at 6-4 and their first since 2009 under James Harrell. Big things are expected this season for them, but they’ll have to defeat Plant if they want things to change.

Lennard – The Longhorns went 7-3 last season and are part of a short list of favorites in their new district this season. Before last season, the ‘Horns were just 3-27 in the previous three seasons. The school began in 2007.

Seffner Christian – Started playing football in 2010, but they have a 27-22 record in five seasons and will enter this year in FHSAA district play with Cambridge Christian.

Spoto – Established in 2007 with Lennard, the Spartans went to the regional semis last season and have made the playoffs four times since their inception even though they’ve yet to win a district title.

Steinbrenner – The Warriors have been playing since 2009 and playing a 10-game schedule since 2010. In that span, they’ve gone 23-26-1.

Strawberry Crest – The Chargers entered at the same time as Steinbrenner and are 18-32 add a program. They went 6-4 in 2013 before falling off to 1-9 and into a district of extreme competition, but ‘Crest has some serious young talent on their roster in 2015.
