Devyn Salmon talks Gators’ camp and gives full recruiting update

Plant City DT Devyn Salmon’s recruitment continues to pick up steam as he picked up offers from Missouri and Michigan State within the last 48 hours. The SEC-bound Tigers extended a verbal offer to Salmon on Tuesday.

“It’s a blessing,” Salmon, the 280-pounder, said of the offer. “The SEC is a tough conference to play in and they always produce a good front four.”

Salmon says that he grew a fan of Missouri. He has also developed a relationship with RB coach Brian Jones who is mainly recruiting him. “They tell me they are high on me and that they have been wanting to offer for a long time and now they finally did,” Salmon explained.

Following the movement of the Tigers, Michigan State offered Salmon on Wednesday. The Spartans have been a long time favorite of the 6-foot 1-inch DT.

“It might be the place for me, but I’m gonna take my time,” Salmon said, although he admitted the Spartans are currently tops on his list. “They have always been very high on my radar. The whole atmosphere, the fans, the players … everything about them. Everyone is supportive. it’s just an awesome program and organization.”

Both offers come after Salmon competed at the University of Florida’s camp. He says that he was happy with his performance and got to speak with head coach Will Muschamp in addition to Brian Young and area-recruiter Derek Lewis.

“They said they really liked me. They liked that I am very coachable, have quick hands, and feet and that I’m violent,” Salmon said of the Florida coaches. “They say they’re looking for that at Florida. They loved my performance and loved me as a person.”

Although he thought he was close, he left Gainesville without an offer.

“I thought I might get an offer at the end of camp, but they just said to stay in contact because they need to see my transcripts.”

Salmon plans to camp at Central Florida and Miami next week, but says his summer isn’t fully planned out. Salmon currently holds 13 verbal offers and will sit down relatively soon to take a hard look at his list of schools while trying to weed a few out. As he makes those decisions Salmon will begin to plan his official visits.
