The DB coaches though the whole event started and ended with the twins from Lakewood [Shaquille and Shaquem Griffin, 2013, DBs]. These 2 kids are just dominant. I’d give Shaq the edge in whose better but these two kids are physical, fast, & confident. These twins were just wrecking receivers…either at the line or when the ball was in the air; getting into another gear.
Maurice Hall, Gibbs, 2014
He is just a player. Competitive and rugged. Good feet and soft hands.
Xavier Johnson, Chamberlain, 2013
Is the real deal…saw him get beat only once all day. What’s crazy is WE [DB coaches] idea who he was considering he ran for 1,500 yards this past season. Johnson was great in every phase…including the individual drills.
Jermaine Gilyard, Chamberlain, 2013 and Ronnie Scott, Chamberlain, 2013
Can cover with the best of them. He’s silky smooth with good hip transition, good feet & made plays all day.
Dalton Nichols, Newsome, 2013
Covered receivers exclusively, in the main group & every time he was knocking down passes or picking them off. He at least posted 2 picks on the day.
Paris Bostic, Plant, 2013 and Nate Godwin, Freedom, 2013
Very good athlete & quick twitch, for a safety in a 1 on 1 environment
Richard Benjamin, Tampa Bay Tech., 2013
He can play any skill position. Surprised how well he played in press coverage. His technique is not the best, but that can be corrected. Great speed and athleticism.
Some receivers the DB coaches liked:
Marquez Valdes, Lakewood, 2013
Artavious Scott, East Lake, 2014
Vernon Hargreaves, Wharton, 2013
Zach Benjamin, Tampa Catholic, 2013
Alvin Bailey, Armwood, 2013
Richard Benjamin, Tampa Bay Tech., 2013
