Cypress Creek is 2-3 at the mid-point of the season. They still have some tough games on the schedule, but the Coyotes have some playmakers emerging. The question is, will they be able to make enough plays to help their team get over .500 and have a shot at the post-season? We will see! Here is a quick look at Cypress Creek’s senior offensive leaders this season.
2022 QB Owen Walls – 6’ 155 lbs
Walls has completed 76 out of 153 pass attempts for 1,105 and 8 touchdowns. He has suffered 3 interceptions. He is a hair under a 50% completion rate. He also has 35 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. Defensively, he has two tackles and he recorded an interception against Sunlake. Overall, he is a solid quarterback who does a good job getting the ball to his difference makers. He can run well when given the opportunity. In their losses, he has been under heavy pressure. Nature Coast and Hudson forced 6 sacks. South Sumter forced 3. He does a good job keeping his poise and giving his team a chance. The Coyote’s offense averages 28 points per game with him taking snaps.
2022 WR Dontrell Clerkley – 6’2” 180 lbs
Clerkley is currently Walls’ top target. He has 19 receptions for 384 and 1 touchdown. He is averaging an impressive 20.2 yards per reception. Defensively, he has 3 tackles, a tackle for loss, and an interception. He has excellent hands and does a nice job getting open. This has allowed him to develop into a great possession receiver and become a reliable target for Walls and the Cypress Creek offense. He has helped them move the chains all season.
2022 RB Kione Roberson – 5’9” 185 lbs
Roberson is leading the Cypress Creek rushing attack with 36 carries for 212 yards and 3 touchdowns. He is averaging 5.9 yards per carry. He also has 3 receptions for 51 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Texas native runs hard and doesn’t shy away from contact. His effort out of the backfield helps bring some balance to the Coyote’s offense. Make note of 2023 RB Tre Gibson also. He has done a great job stepping into the backfield as the Coyotes’ secondary ball-carrier. The junior has contributed 144 yards and 2 touchdowns on 20 carries.
